Welcome to the Historical Fiction Project!

During their time in the Intermediate School, our eighth grade students have been immersing themselves in literary techniques in English class and research skills in history class. Now, they are combining aspects of both classes as they research an event or era in twentieth-century United States history and then compose a short work of fiction set in that time period. After many weeks of planning, drafting, and revising, here are the historical fiction pieces from Mr. Fishback's English classes.

You can navigate this website in a number of ways: reading straight through, selecting a student from the left column, or selecting a topic from the right column. Feel free to comment below any story, as long as your comment is specific, positive, and respectful; please avoid critiques and suggestions. This website is accessible to anyone who has the link, but it does not appear in search engines.

You are also welcome to view the project guidelines and learn about Deborah Wiles's novel Countdown, which served as our mentor text for this project. Our students enjoyed a day-long workshop with Ms. Wiles toward the beginning of their writing process.

Thank you for reading our stories!
